For most Fly Fishers this sport encompasses trout, and we here at the shop love trout and the amazing places they take us. However the local fisheries provides us with opportunities to catch species in our backyards that most people would never think of!

From the beautiful Sierra mountains to the great blue ocean, the team at SouthWestWaters explore every waterway available to anglers. San Diego is a very unique place for fly anglers because of the diversity it provides us. We can fish largemouth bass in the morning, carp in the middle of the day, surf in the afternoon, and finish it off with some nighttime bay fishing! All in one day! We love to fish local spots for fish that are not typically thought of as fly fishing targets. Species like Spotted bay bass, calico bass, barred sand bass, croaker, halibut, mullet, corvina, corbina, perch, multiple species of rays and even a couple different kinds of sharks are all possibilities to catch in the salt water from shore! Add freshwater species like largemouth bass, panfish, and carp to the equation and what you get is nothing short of a fly fishing smorgasbord.
